On 22 July 1979,
BPRA officially came into existence through its first National
Conference at Hotel Purbani International. The then Deputy Prime
Minister of the Bangladesh Government Prof. A Q M Badruddoza Chowdhury
was present as the chief guest while the then Minister of Information &
Broadcasting Mr. Habibullah Khan came as the special guest. Mr. Sanat
Lahiri, the then president of the International Public Relations
Association (IPRA) attended the conference upon special invitation. Mr.
Syed Nuruddin presided over while speeches were given by Mr. Md. Nurul
Islam, Mr. Ahmed Humayun (the then President of Bangladesh Federal Union
of Journalists), Mr. Obayed-ul-Huq (the then editor of Bangladesh
Observer) and Mr. Jahur Hussain Chowdhury (eminent journalist and public
relations expert). |

The
conference accepted the code of ethics and the code of conduct
of the International Public Relations Association (IPRA) as the compulsory codes for BPRA members. Besides,
BPRA’s constitution was also formulated. This
conference uncontestedly elected the first 25 member executive
council with Mr. Md. Nurul Islam as the President and Mr.
Jahirul Islam as the General Secretary. The number of BPRA
General Members at that time was 96.On the occasion
of that first conference, the then Prime Minister Mr. Shah Azizur Rahman,
IPRA President Mr. Sanat Lahiri and IPRA Secretary General Mr. Sam Black
Wrote good will messages for the beautiful souvenir that was published.
It was the first even souvenir on Public Relations in this country. |

Second National Conference:

The 2nd National
Conference of BPRA was held on 12 October 1980 at the TSC Auditorium,
University of Dhaka. Mr. Shah Azizur Rahman (the then Prime Minister)
and Mr. Shamsul Huda Chowdhury (the then Information and Broadcasting
Minister) graced the occasion as the chief guest and special guest
respectively. The then Vice
President of Bangladesh Justice Abdus Sattar, globally renowned Public
Relations expert Mr. Edward L. Bernays and the then IPRA President Mr.
J. Carrol Bateman sent goodwill massages of this occasion. |

The President
and the General Secretary of the first Executive Council Mr. Md. Nurul
Islam and Mr. Md. Jahirul Islam were re-elected in their respective
posts. The number of members increased up to 120 which gave BPRA further
momentum in its work. |
Third National Conference:

On 12 June 1982,
BPRA held its 3rd National Conference at the Bangladesh Shilpakala
Academy Auditorium that witnessed the presence of Mr. Shamsul Huda
Chowdhury (the then Information & Broadcasting Minister) and Mr. Daud
Khan Majlis (the then Information Advisor to the President) as the Chief
guest and special guest respectively.

The 4th National
Conference of BPRA was held on 12 July 1984 at the auditorium of
Bangladesh Agriculture Research Council. The then President and Chief
Martial Law Administrator Lt. Gen. Hussain Mohammad Ershad graced the
conference as the Chief guest. He also delivered a goodwill massage on
this occasion. The conference
elected Mr. Md. Nurul Islam and Mr. Abul Kalam Azad as the President and
General Secretary respectively for the next two years.

Fifth National Conference |

 |
Hotel Purbani held
the 5th National Conference of BPRA on 17 April 1986. The Chief Guest
was Air Vice Marshal Sultan Mahmud, the then Deputy Chief Martial Law
Administrator in charge of Ministry of Industry.
President of IPRA
Mr. Amelia Lobsenz and Secretary General Mr. Anthony John Murdoch send
their goodwill massages on this occasion. Mr. M. Tajul Islam and Mr.
Abul Kalam Azad were elected as President and General Secretary of the
Executive Council respectively.
After Mr. Tajul Islam went abroad on a governmental
assignment, Mr. A. K. M. Shamsuddin Ahmed, the then BPRA Vice
President, served BPRA as the president for the rest of the
tenure.

Sixth National Conference |

The 6th National
Conference of BPRA was held on 29 December 1988 at Hotel Purbani. The
speaker of the National Parliament Mr. Shamsul Huda Chowdhury attended
the conference as the Chief Guest while the Minister for Relief and
Rehabilitation Mr. Sirajul Hussain Khan was present as the special
guest. The then
President of the country Lt. Gen. Hussain Mohammad. Ershad gave his
goodwill massage on this occasion. Mr. Md. Nurul Islam and Mr. Obaidul
Kabir Khan were elected as the President and General Secretary
respectively. |

The 7th National
Conference took place on 19 November 1992 at the National Press Club
auditorium. Barrister Nazmul Huda, the then Information Minister
attended as the chief guest while Prof. Imazuddin Ahmed, the then Vice
Chancellor of the University of Dhaka attended as the special guest. The then Prime
Minister of Bangladesh Government Begum Khaleda Zia sent her goodwill
message on this occasion.

Conference was held on 6 July 1995 at the Hotel Sheraton. Begum Khaleda
Zia, the then Prime Minister of Bangladesh Government graced the event

Information and Commerce, attended as the special guest. The then
President of Bangladesh Mr. Abdur Rahman Biswas, as well as messages on
this occasion.The election of

1998, the 9th Biennial Conference was held at the Hotel Sheraton. Sheikh
Hasina, the then Prime Minister of Bangladesh Government attended the

(the then Minister of Works) Professor Abu Sayeed (the then State
Minister of Information) and Mr. Abul Kalam Azad (the then Chairman of

The 10th Biennial
Conference took place on 9 March 2006. Held at the Bangladesh
Agricultural Research Council auditorium, the conference witnessed Mr.
M. Shamsul Islam (the then Information Minister) as the Chief Guest. Mr.
Riazuddin Ahmed (the then President of the National Press Club), and Mr.
Shafiqul Karim Sabu (the then President of Dhaka Reporters Unity), were
present as special guest. President of the
People’s Republic of Bangladesh Prof. Dr. Iajuddin Ahmed and Prime
Minister Begum Kahleda Zia gave goodwill messages on this occasion.

The 11th Biennial
National Conference of BPRA was held on 12 April 2008 at the National
Press Club auditorium. Dr. Hossain Zillur Rahman, Education and Commerce
Advisor to the Caretaker Government, graced the event as the chief
guest. The special guest was Mr. Shawkat Mahmud, President of the
National Press Club. On the occasion of
this conference, Prof. Dr. Iajuddin Ahmed, President of the People’s
Republic of Bangladesh and Dr. Fakhruddin Ahmed, Chief Advisor of the
Caretaker Government, gave their goodwill messages.
The general body
meeting that followed the conference elected Mirza Tarequl Qader as the
President and Mr. A S M Bazlul Haque as the General Secretary
